The Endless Walk

You've already gotten bored of eating homely wheat,
But my little lads have absolutely nothing to eat.

You regret being locked up and can't play on the street,
But we've thousands of miles to go on our bruised feet.

You never feel blessed that you have shade,
You hanker for more though you have adequate aid.

You applaud the doctors, you give roses to the soldiers,
But we suffer silently on an endless path beset with boulders.

My two young kids ask, "When we will reach home , Dad?"
They look up to me for an answer, their faces sad.

Perhaps this is a question that I can't answer back,
How should I tell them that even I've lost the track?

They say there's light at the end of the tunnel out there,
But the end of this dark tunnel seems to be nowhere.

Perhaps we'll have to walk to our inevitable death,
But for my family's sake, I can't lose hope till my last breath.

How long we've to go and how long it has been,
Leave nature, we didn't expect humans to be so mean.

Our legs pain after our walks in the heat,
We can either struggle or just choose to retreat.

We've failed to subdue our hunger and our thirst,
You failed to show your humanity when the calamity interspersed.

Not the virus, but the hunger will carry us to our grave,
For you just cared about yourself when there were millions you could save.

Perhaps you won't care till we're all gone,
Inside you may be at peace but outside the war is still on.

  5. It's different indeed. You seem to utilise the quarantine quite productively. The music is soothing and yet powerful. I look forward to your poems in other genres too.
